Bermuda: Truly a Paradise
As Sport for Life CEO, my recent trip to Bermuda, alongside our Director of Community and International Engagement, Tom Jones, marked a significant collaboration with National Sport Governing Bodies (NSGBs). The purpose was clear – to assist in designing and developing long-term athlete development (LTAD) pathways for various sports within the country.
Bermuda's initiative aligned seamlessly with the five goals outlined in the government's National Sport Policy, and the Department of Sport and Recreation recognized the value of engaging Sport for Life, a global leader in LTAD education. Our mission was to work hand-in-hand with the governing bodies, creating and documenting frameworks that comprehensively guide every aspect of an athlete's journey in their respective sports.
The overarching goal of the Bermuda LTAD project is ambitious yet crucial. The visionary leadership within the Bermuda government aims for all recognized sports in Bermuda to document, circulate and implement an LTAD framework. This empowers the Sport and Recreation Department to advocate more effectively for sports within the government sphere and provides each sport with a standardized language and visual pathway. This common ground facilitates collaboration, planning, and successfully tackling issues while leveraging all available opportunities.
I am pleased to report that, through our collaborative efforts, the vast majority of the NSGB community in Bermuda is well-positioned to complete their LTAD pathways according to plan. This achievement not only reflects the dedication of the governing bodies but also highlights the commitment of Bermuda's sports community to fostering the long-term development and success of its athletes.
As we move forward, we anticipate continued success and growth within the Bermuda LTAD initiative, contributing to the overall enhancement of the sports landscape in the region. The groundwork laid during our visits to set the stage for a future where every athlete can thrive within a well-structured and supportive LTAD framework.
